Play Clay

2 cups baking soda
1 cup corn starch
1-1/4 cups cold water

Combine all ingredients in a saucepan and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly.
When mixture is the consistency of moist mashed potatoes, turn out onto a plate and cover with a damp cloth. When cool enough to handle, knead like bread dough. Add a few drops of food coloring for colored objects. To keep play clay moist, store in an air tight container or plastic bag in the fridge. Bring to room temperature before using.

Roll out Play Clay on waxed paper to desired thickness.
Cut shapes with cookie cutters. Make hole with straw for hanging, if desired. Allow objects to dry overnight.

To shorten the drying time, heat shapes in a 350F oven for about 15 minutes. Continue to heat, 5 minutes at a time until sufficiently hardened.  Cool completely and pain with water colors, poster paints or felt tip pens.
Let dry, then coat with liquid plastic, varnish or clear nail polish. Use craft glue for any necessary repairs to cracked or broken pieces.
